Suggest Alternative Medication For Trazadone Taken For Insomnia

Question: I am needing a sleep aid. I do very well with Trazadone but have irritable bowel syndrome and the drug has begun to upset my stomach terribly. Does Trazadone or Ambien come in a suppository form so as not to pass through the digestive track? What about Klonopin. I don't need this every night. Just at high stress times or during travel. Any other suggestions for a sleep aid that would be easy on the stomach? Thank you.

There are no suppositories of trazodone or ambien.

Klonopin is safe on stomach. But is available on prescription only. If you can get a valid prescription for it, this drug would be the safest choice for occasional use.

Benadryl is an OTC sleep aid but can cause gastric upset.

Have you heard of people having stomach upset from Trazadone (nausea, cramps) or am I ultra sensitive? Just trying to decide if it's worth it to try the Klonopin since I seem to be so sensitive. Thanks for your feedback.

I have seen many patients complaining of nausea/vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps with trazodone.

I feel klonopin would be a safer choice for you.
