Brief Answer:
old drug and not used frequently

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question.
As you know there has been a lot of problems with prescription drug abuse. In an effort to limit some of this older drugs are being used less and may be pulled off the market.
Talwin is an older drug and manufacturers may stop making it. it would be a good idea for you at this point to find a pain medication that is more current that can control your pain. If your doctor is not comfortable managing this change you may need to see a pain management specialist. It is very important for you to find a medication that controls your pain but does not make you drowsy.
Best wishes and let me know if you have further questions

Brief Answer:
best approach to pain management

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It is hard to recommend one to you because everyone reacts differently. All of the narcotics can be nauseating but some more than others for any one patient. However, after you have taken a narcotic for a few weeks the nausea usually goes away. Norco has hydrocodone so you could try something with oxycodone instead. The best approach is to use several medications that work in different ways to attack the pain from all angles. Percocet has both oxycodone and tylenol. You could minimize your dose of that by adding an antiinflammatory like advil. It may also help you to add a medication like gabapentin which seems to stabilize nerve cells and help with pain. If your pain is from arthritis adding glucosamine may also be helpful.
You will need to work closely with your doctor to find the optimal plan to relieve your pain and keep you alert.
I wish you the best,
Dr. Robinson
