Question: I am having spasms in the left leg due to arthritis in the lumber spine and they are very painful. I am taking Meloxicam 15 mg a day and still experiencing a lot of pain. Is there another medication I can take. The pain is especially severe when walking.

Brief Answer:
You need to take Pregabalin

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think that you are having nerve compression in spine that is causing pain in leg. Along with Meloxicam which you are already taking I will suggest you following.
1.Take Pregabalin M / gabapin NT tablet at night time.
2.Make sure that your blood sugar and serum B 12 and D3 are normal. Check your blood sugar. Take Methylcobal and caclium daily. Also you should take 60000 unit vitamin D per week for six week.
3.Back muscle exercises is also helpful in spinal arthritis.
If these steps are not sufficient then you need to get MRI of the spine. I hope these steps will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

Hello Doctor,
I have a follow-up question:
I took 300 mg. of Neurontin 6 hours ago and plan to switch to Lyrica to relieve the side-effects I am experiencing. Will I experience any withdrawal symptoms when I stop the Neurontin? How long must I wait before I start on the Lyrica? Thank you.

Are my questions being received and will the replies be sent to YYYY@YYYY , which is my personal email. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You can take Lyrica after 24 hours

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Lyrica and Neurontin does not have a big difference in side effect. So you can take either of them. There will not be any withdrawal symptoms, and there should be at least 24 hours gap before you can take other tablet. Both cause sedation as their main side effect. I would personally prefer Neurontin in my patients.
thanks
