Question: Im a Diabetic and having problems keeping blood sugar below the two hundreds unless I eat very little. In the last few months I have notice boils in the groin area, they start out hard and firm never really coming to a head. I have used hot compresses and some acne cream. I have to use pressure to have them drain which they dont completely do also they never really go away. I m very upset about this never had this before. Any suggestions would help to get rid of them once and for all.

Brief Answer:
Diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Sorry to note your problem. The most likely reason for those persistent boils is the uncontrolled diabetes. You must do whatever is necessary to bring your sugars closer to around a 100 most of the time.

The best way to achieve this would be to see an Endocrinologist in-person immediately.

In addition you also need to see a dermatologist or a family / internal medicine doctor examine you right away and based on what they find on examination, they will prescribe appropriate medication. This is the only way your boils will heal quickly.

When I see someone like you in my practice, I typically order the following blood tests in addition to a detailed physical examination:

CBC
Electrolytes
Calcium
HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin = your 3 month glucose average)
Liver function tests
Kidney function tests
TSH
25 hydroxy Vitamin D

Note: For further follow-up, discuss your blood glucose reports with our diabetologist. Click here.
