Hi,
Proteus mirabilis is considered as normal flora of the intestinal tract. Thus, the only infections it can cause include those of urinary tract, lungs or wounds.
It is common for people of middle-age to elder to have such proteus infections of Urinary tract.
Antibiotics of broad spectrum are the treatment of choice. It is good that your sister could do the culture and sensitivity to have more success in treatment.
