Hello, My girlfriend, who is 21, is late on her period about a week now. In the past month she has gone to her medical school for her first semester and is probably stressing a lot. She has complained about constipation and headaches here and there but that was a couple of weeks ago. We are just worried she may be pregnant at this point since her period is a week late. She said she has gained a little weight but her breasts are not sore or anything. What should we do at this point? Her periods are not always regular. Could the move to a new country and the stress of school cause her period to be delayed??

Thanks for consulting us.
Yes, you are right stress is a factor that may result in delayed periods specially in young girls. But pregnancy is the commonest cause that should be considered when a women is late for her periods. Having sore breasts & other common signs of pregnancy is not essential.
I suggest she should take a home pregnancy test to rule out this possibility.
Hope this answers your query. Please feel free to write back if you have any other concerns.
wish you good health.
Best Regards.
