Hi. Woke up today with extremely sore throat. It feels raw and when I cough it gags me. Also my chest is tight and I can't sleep.

Thanks for posting your query.

From the details that you have shared it seems that you might have

>Throat inflammation-may be viral or due to some food or drinks that you had
>Upper respiratory tract infection
>Acid-Gas problem.
>Bronchitis-swelling inside air pipe

Please do the following which should help.

>Take steam inhalation
>Have more of hot liquids like soup, coffee etc.
>Take light diet
>You can take Tylenol for pain and discomfort
>You can even do warm water gargles.
>Try to sleep with pillow under your shoulder, this will raise your head and prevent coughing.

In case this does not help, which ideally should in case of minor problem, you need to consult your primary care physician for examination and treatment.

I hope this helps.

Wishing you good health.
