Should A Esophagram Be Rescheduled When Suffering From Vertigo?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Jul 2014
Question: I've been fighting a viral infection with coughing and painful sore throat for the past week and a half. The symptoms are slowly subsiding, but now I'm experiencing symptoms of vertigo. My question is I'm scheduled to have a Esophagram on Mon., XXXXXXX 23. I cannot get an answer from the medical facility as to whether this procedure should be cancelled. My question to you is should I cancel/not show up for this procedure until my symptoms have subsided?

Brief Answer:
NO need to get itt cancelled!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about the vertigo that you have been experiencing. I hope you soon recover fully from the viral infection and this annoying vertigo symptoms. Viral labyrinthitis which presents with vertigo is often common after an upper respiratory tract infection. For now, take good care to avoid falls as much as possible. This is because vertigo greatly compromises balance and can lead to falls with serious complications.

Vertigo is not a reason for you to get your esophagram rescheduled. It is not a contraindication to this test. However, this test is not an urgent procedure and you may want to take it when you are feeling perfect. It is up to you to choose whether to have a test when you are not feeling very well when it is not very urgent or push it further. As to whether vertigo is enough a reason to cancel this test, the response is a NO.

In all, vertigo will in no way affect the procedure or results. Whether to push forward or not depends solely on your personal wishes.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be.
