Right After The Initial Bite Of A Bat Cat Dog

default
Posted on Sun, 18 Aug 2019
Question: Right after the initial bite of a bat cat dog etc. there would be slight marks and redness in the area because of not washing of the cut etc. It would have stung like an open wound usually does. And if the bite was rabid would most likely be red and irritated and swollen by now (6 weeks) showing the infection, it wouldn’t just look like a normal cut correct?

I have read online that either rabies bites the most common symptoms is redness, tingling sensations around the bite area with tenderness. These feelings would develop fairy fast after the bite happens correct? Like they would not take 6 weeks to have tingling and see redness at the bite site. I would have seen that by now if I had a bite correct?

Brief Answer:
Animal bite -related to rabies

Detailed Answer:
After an incubation period of on an average 20-90 days(may vary from 5 days to 7 years) after the bite of a rabid animal, patient may experience during prodromal period (lasting 2-20 days) paresthesias, pain, or pruritus at the wound site. The wound has usually healed by this point(healed bite wound scar), and these symptoms probably reflect infection with associated inflammatory changes in local dorsal root or cranial sensory ganglia.During most of the incubation period, rabies virus is thought to be present at or close to the site of inoculation.
Licking by rabid animal on abraided skin or mm may result in infection(contamination with infectious secretion, such as saliva).

Animal bite rabid or non-rabid will cause local redness and swelling ,pain and tenderness for sometime before it heals up.There is no way to tell from the local examination of the bite whether bite is from rabid or non-rabid animal.

Most human cases of Rabies related to bat exposure ,are due to a bat rabies virus variant associated with silverhaired and tricolored bats. These are small bats whose bite may not be
recognized.
Aerosols generated in the laboratory or in caves containing millions
of Brazilian free-tail bats have rarely caused human rabies( by nasal route and no bite).
Hopefeully I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Please feel free to ask ,if any further clarification is needed.

Brief Answer:
Animal bite - related to rabies

Detailed Answer:
Any blood letting bite would cause local inflammation leading to redness (rubor), pain(dolor) and swelling(tumor). Even abrasion would expose dermal capillaries & nerve endings and carries a risk of transmission. The rabies virus cannot penetrate intact skin; however, the virus can penetrate broken skin and intact mucosa.

Bats do not make audible squeaking sounds. Bats make sounds that are two to three times higher in frequency than humans can hear. Bats can, however, make audible fluttering noises with their wings while flying.

In the absence of a history of a definite animal bite or scar mark, health anxiety about rabies is unfounded.

How do scars usually develop and what would it look like within 7 weeks? Would it likely be still healing? Or a visible lighter piece of skin? Or would it be fairly not visible and darker than my skin colour like the small one I sent on my wrist?

The headache feels like a tension headache as I am very stressed and anxious. And I don’t have swollen tonsils or anything like that just a slight pain when I swallow. Am I okay?

Brief Answer:
Animal bite -related to rabies

Detailed Answer:
Wound healing is complete with scar formation and a tidy wound usually heals up by 4 weeks.
Headache, sore throat ,retro-ocular apin suggest URTI(viral) and usually subsides by 7 days.
Nonspecific prodromal manifestations of Rabies
include fever, malaise, headache and may subside only temporarily with Advil (Ibuprofen).

Although controversial, the use of Post-exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) may be warranted when a person (e.g., a small child or a sleeping adult) has been present in the same space as a bat and an unrecognized bite cannot be reliably excluded .

Since Tissue-culture vaccines like Human diploid cell vaccine (HDCV) or
Purified chick embryo cell vaccine (Rabipur) are highly immunogenic and remarkably safe compared with earlier vaccines,it is advisable to go for Four 1-mL doses of rabies vaccine given IM in the deltoid area on days 0 (first dose) 3, 7,and 14; a fifth dose on day 28(optional).

Delayed treatment may still be of some value.
In no case it should be denied to exposed persons whatever time interval has elapsed.
If there is any doubt the patient should be given full postexposure prophylaxis, even if the bite is several months old.

I have no fever or headache anymore and a very slight sore throat only on one side of my mouth. You are saying that sore throat is not a direct symptom of rabies correct? I do not see any bite or scar and it has been 7 weeks since exposure now.

It is also a very slight sore throat nothing too painful at all. I have major health anxiety and I am freaking out. I went to the local GP and they advised me that I don’t need the shot.
