Thank you for your query.

Chest congestion caused during pregnancy is mostly normal and should not cause any harm to your growing fetus. Hormonal changes cause increased occurence of congestion during pregnancy. Congestion, alone, during pregnancy is usually not a symptom of any other illness, but symptoms such as coughing, a sore throat, aches and pains, or a fever may indicate you have a cold or the flu. However, it has already been three weeks, so its too long for a common cold / flu to run its course.

Run a warm-mist humidifier in your room when you sleep at night to increase the moisture in the room and relieve your congestion.Try adding Vicks vaporub to it. Place an extra pillow under your head at night to prevent the mucus from blocking your airways. Increase your fluid intake to assist with moistening your nasal passages. Saline drops are another way to moisten the nasal passages, but medicated drops need a prescription first. A warm soak in the tub, and a steam bath will ease congestion. Simply, stay in the steam filled room for a little longer.

The most effective treatment is to drink plenty of fluids. It can be water, fruit juices, especially with vitamin C, even soups and broths. Drink herbal tea, add ginger to the regular tea for relief. Use lemon in your drinks, as the acidic properties of lemon help drain the mucous.

Pamper yourself with plenty of rest. It works wonders. Include foods XXXXXXX in zinc, like pork, XXXXXXX eggs, yogurt, beef, oysters (cooked) in your diet. Zinc will help strengthen the immune system. Also citrus XXXXXXX vegetables and fruits like oranges, mango, strawberries, kiwi, bell peppers, tomato, red cabbage, etc., can help fight the symptoms. You could even take Vitamin C supplements.

Steaming hot food and soups like chicken soup and broth are excellent options for dietary solutions for congestion. This helps in reducing most of the symptoms.
Light exercise is also helpful. Avoid exercising in dust and polluted outdoors. Also stay away from smoke, chemical fumes and alcohol. They worsen the congestion and irritation.

If the symptoms fail to reduce, and in case of XXXXXXX and yellow mucous, that lasts for a week and more, fever combined with a congested chest, vomiting or diarrhea with cold and flu for more than 3 days, etc., please consult a Chest Physician and stop taking recourse to home remedies.

Take care, and feel free to ask for further clarifications.
