Hello, XXXXXXX,
We have to go by a limited information that you have
provided. Along with diarrhea, if you have fever, chills, abdominal
pain, We have to consider Diverticulitis. Since you mention that
you have diverticulosis, infection of one or more of the pockets
is a distinct possibility. Black color of the stool may indicate
slow bleeding. Usually the bleeding is bright red with diverticulitis.
But if the diverticulosis involves the right side of the colon, it is
possible to have dark or maroon colored stool. White flakes may
indicate some strands of mucus that indicates inflammation.
One thing I am concerned is the fact that you mention early
stages of cirrhosis. I hope that is very stable and not advancing.
If you have dilated veins in the esophagus as a result of cirrhosis,
you could have bleeding from those and is called bleeding varices.
Usually this is associated with vomiting of blood, sometimes severe.
I think personally that you may have an attack of diverticulitis.
You may require CT-Scan of tha abdomen, blood tests to find
out more. I suggest that you go over to the nearest medical
facility for further workup and treatment.
I wish you well.

I do not have fever, chills or abdominal pains, to suggest diverticulitis. Nor am I vomitting blood in the least. Is it still something very serious for me to worry about. I certainly do intend to see a doctor if it continues tomorrow. I forgot to mention that I took an overdose of my homeopathic medicine this morning. Could thid be the cause.

Hello, XXXXXXX,
If your ayurvedic medicine contains aspirin or ibuprofen
that could cause small ulcers in the lining of the stomach
and slow bleeding from these can make your stool dark.
I am glad that you don't have fever, chills, vomiting of blood.
Wish you well.

MY 82 YEAR OLD FATHER HAS HAD ACUTE CHRONIC DIARRHOEA FOR AT LEAST 8 WEEKS. HIS STOOL SAMPLES CAME BACK NEGATIVE TO BACTERIA AND HE HAS HAD A CT SCAN WHICH HAS DIAGNOSED DIVERTICULAR DISEASE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NO TREATMENT BUT OVER THE LAST 2 DAYS HE HAS RELEASED LARGE AMOUNTS OF CLEAR MUCUS WHEN HE PASSES WIND. HE HAS LOST HIS APPETITE AND IS BECOMING WEAK. HE SAYS HE HAS NO STOMACH PAIN BUT HE HAS VERY LITTLE FEELING OF MUCH AT ALL IN HIS TUMMY AREA AND IS OFTEN TOO LATE TO GET TO THE TOILET. ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE CAUSING THE MUCUS PLEASE?

Because of a history of constipation problems over the years I have been flushing my rectum with a flow of warm water to dislodge the feces. A couple of times in the past I've had to deal with Diverticular Disease and last year I was hospitalized (4/19 to 4/22) for four days. This onset was because I could not pass my fecal. At that time I had a lower left abdomen pain causing the hospital confinement due to an infection.

My current problem is a burning sensation at the anus. This started a few days ago when the stream of water was too strong or too hot. There is no bleeding. Somewhere I got the idea that this could result in a bacterial problem so I'm worried on that score too. Is flushing unwise? So far (for two days) I've just applied Vaseline but that isn't solving the problem. Is a electrolyte test called for?

I have been taking Cholestoff for 6 months. For the past 2 months, I've suffered from hard stools and constipation. I have a high fiber diet, get plenty of exercise and drink lots of fluids. I've recently added fiber supplements to my diet which have been of no help. Is it possible that the Cholestoff is causing this problem?
