Question: I noticed a swollen lymph node on theleft side of my neck a week ago. How long without change before i should see a doc?

1. if you notice any weight loss (more than 10% of body weight) or experience pressure symptoms like edema,venous engorgement and cyanosis of head or root pain.
2. but firstly cause has to be established prior to taking decision on your own, thus examination is necessary.

1. Root pain means that if you don't see a doctor, and if the swollen lymph node (of neck) goes on increasing (without initial symptoms), then it may invade anterior cervical spine and cord, thereby causing compression of nerve tissue,resulting in PAIN along the ROOTS through which the fibres from the cord exit i.e. either numbness, pain, paralysis,loss of function.
