Question: My wife is experiencing severe pain in her upper stomach/ abdomen area (right under her rib cage) right now. She has had mild to moderate discomfort there for a few days now, and it has got to the point where it is so bad now that it is causing pain to shoot up through her shoulder blades as well. It makes her feel nauteous and she has thrown up and nothing was digested from dinner last night. What could be the cause of this and what should be done immediately to eliviate her pain?

Have seen details and I appreciate your concerns.
As per the details given by you most likely she is having gallbladder pathology. Possibly stones in gall bladder. Radiation of pain to shoulder blade is again suggestive of the same.

Investigation
Ultrasound upper abdomen should be done to rule out pathology
Treatment as off now-
Anti inflammatory analgesic like Ibuprofen can be given 8hourly.
Anti nausea zofran 4mg thrice daily can be given.

Rest follow up with report of ultrasound.
