My Wife Had A Silver Filling For Her + No 6 Teeth Doctor Now Advised An Inlay Still Sensation When Drinking Water How Long Should We Wait And What Is The Alternative At This Point ?

Question: My wife had a silver filling for her + no 6 teeth. There was a cavity in the tooth which caused another amalgam filling to be done 2 months ago. That did not last and last week the doctor who did the filling now advised an inlay. However there is still sensation when drinking water even after 1 week. There is no irritation otherwise. Normally pain should subside over a week for inlays- but it seems to be holding steady. How long should we wait and what is the alternative at this point ?

Brief Answer:
Consult dentist and go for xray, if deep cavity then go for RCT.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query and understand your concern. As far as treatment inlay is concerned that done when cavity is deep. If you have senstivity or pain after treatment then it means your cavity is deep and it reaches the deep layer of tooth that is PULP.

Now, If you have pain from over week then i will suggest you don't Wait you should consult dentist and go for investigation xray and if xray finding reveals deep cavity then go for treatment ROOT CANAL of that tooth.

Thanks.

This is surprising. 2 months ago the doctor was confident of a filling. Last weekend, he said we cannot tell that it would not hold, now the inlay will last for several years. The doctor did not do an X ray before the inlay, so what you are saying is very possible- that the cavity is deep.

Brief Answer:
If she has senstivity then go for xray before treatment plan.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query and understand your concern. I have told you that if your wife had pain or senstivity while drinking water in restored tooth then it may be possible that cavity might be deep.

To confirm that cavity is deep or not i said you must go for xray before any diagnosis and treatment for deep cavity is root canal treatment.
Thanks.
