My Father Died Suddenly Last Month From Iscaemic Heart Disease
Question: My father died suddenly last month from iscaemic heart disease, coronary artery atherosclerosis and hypertension. He’d been feeling unwell for about 6 months prior to his death, tiredness as well as sinusitis. He was always breathless and slept badly. He suffered a nose bleed one month before his death and an xray ofhis head 1 month before he died gave him the all clear for cancer as the cause of the nose bleed. He was prescribed domperidon for nausea 1 month before he died. I also noticed reduced appetite and him seeming a bit dazed. He died before blood tests carried out came back. He was already taking lipitor for previously diagnosed cholesterol. Despite all this he carried out a vigourous 10km walk with me 4 months before he died leading me to believe he was in reasonable health (and would have had a heart attack then if he was going to) .Given all this, could anything further have been done to prevent his death and could donperidone have been a contributing factor? I feel like the focus was on his complaint of sinusitis and little reference was given to his medical history and other symptoms and the wider picture was missed. Is my assessment fair?

I can understand your concern. As per your history, I think that sinusitis or tab. Domperidone are not contributing factors for this mishap. The main cause may be ischaemic heart disease associated with hypertension, atherosclerosis.
As you said he is always breathless and history of nose bleeding, please let me know whether his blood pressure was under control? Whether he is on regular follow up with physician for hypertension? What was his sugar levels? As diabetes is one of the contributory factor for ischaemic heart disease. Kindly follow up with detailed history.
I think for symptoms like continuous breathlessness and hypertension, he would have been consult with cardiologist and per his condition he would suggest investigations like electrocardiogram, 2D Echo, treadmill test or coronary angiography to rule out any cardiac pathology. So these measures shows better outcome in such cases.
