My 20 Year Old Daughter Has Had 3 Light Brown,

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Oct 2018
Question: My 20 year old daughter has had 3 light brown, nickel sized bruises on her arm for about 5 weeks. There is no pain, no itch, no fading. She just noticed another. She had some recent immunizations right before they appeared. Could they be related? Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Possible causes and recommendations given

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

The skin pigmentation in brown spots is very common and most of the cases it is nothing serious or something to worry about especially if they are few in number. I don't think it is very likely the skin pigmentation is related to vaccinations, unless she is having bruises (blue, purple, green color) and not brown spots, but please provide us the name of the vaccines she had to make sure they are related or not.

To better evaluate the importance of them it is important for her to do a thorough examination of her body and check how many lesions (brown spots) she has and what size are they each, she should also notice if she has skin colored growths on her skin that are new to her.

A picture of the lesions would be very helpful as well.

To conclude i would say:
- as long as the lesions are less than 5 in number very likely this is not something to worry
- lack of skin colored growths (sometimes light brown color) on her skin is a good sign as well

If she checks her body and she notices at least 5 lesions light brown color and bigger than 1.5 cm in diameter (in patients after puberty), then she should see a doctor and have a proper examination by a professional and rule out caffe ou lait lesions caused by neurofibromatosis.

If lesions change color or shape and or location then very likely they are not caffe ou lait lesions and other causes might be considered like bruises (generally they vary in color from blue to purple green, yellow and fade) and in this case some blood tests would be important like CBC, ERS, thrombocyte count, coagulation time and hemorrhage time to rule out bleeding and coagulation problems.
If more questions related to this please attach a picture of the lesions and provide us with the name of the vaccines she got as well.

I hope i have answered your query. Please let me know if i can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
