Brief Answer:
You can give him crackers and sticks first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I am sorry to hear this from your grandson. Since he is not eating and drinking and is also vomiting doctor should give him intravenous fluids to keep him hydrated.
When he starts to get a bit better you can try to give him crackers, toast, sticks.
You can give him this finger food on hand and make it more funny.
Then give him clear water and broths.
Don't use too much fruit juices especially apple and pear.
Don't give him diary products, fatty foods and high fibre foods.

Giving him anti nausea drugs is not advisable.
Hope I have answered the question.

Thank you. He won't eat much. I asked if his throat is irritated from all the procedures. Could the crackers help get the e coli back into his intestine? He has been on I v for a week. Getting nutrients through there, too. No more fever. What if he still won't eat?

Brief Answer:
Introduce food gradually.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again dear .
He should be introduced food gradually. The e crackers doesn't help to get e coli back in intestine.
The metronidazole is right treatment and he will soon get cured.
Please introduce food gradually to him.
There is no possibility that he won't eat.
