Question: My 13 yr old daughter started with a raised rash coming and going under one eye. It would happen within 10 minutes and her eye would swell. Treated with benedryl and every other day it would happen again. I ended up taking her the ER it got so bad so quick and she said everything was itchy but no other rash except the one eye was visible. Also she had terrible upset stomach. They treated her with IV benedryl Pepcid and sent her home with referral to allergist. This continued. She felt tired and awful. I took her to urgent care tested neg for mono tested positive for strep. They gave her amoxicillin and told me to still follow up with allergist in case these were unrelated. I did he gave her allegrA pepcid and xyzal to continue til we do allergy testing In he summer so she doesn't miss any more school. Now here we are two weeks later and she is still sick after antibiotics too. Sounds awful has no energy sleeps and stays in bed all weekend. Throat hurting still and so weak. Do u think it's just gonna take time or maybe there is something else going on

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics review needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome

I appreciate your concern

If the symptoms (especially documented fever) have persisted beyond 2 weeks then the antibiotics should be reviewed. Normally with empiric treatment, response is seen within 48 hours. Throat swab for culture sensitivity testing should be done and antibiotics can be advised accordingly. Saline gargles and ibuprofen can be advised for the throat pain. Complete blood count should also be advised to look for tge trend of TLC whether any response is there or not. The antihistamines can be continued as before.
