Question: Hello doctor,

We have a 19 days old newborn. He is suffering from cold i think since he sneezes at regular intervals and it looks like his nose is blocked which we can observing when he is feeding while his mom is nursing him. We can hear wheezing sound during breastfeeding.

The pediatrics have given "Nasoclear" (Saline nasal spray) and asked us to put a drop in each nostril before feeding him. We are doing this but there is no improvement.

Please let us know if there is anything else we should be doing?

Thanks,

Brief Answer:
Try bulb sucker

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.

I understand that your newborn baby is sneezing a lot and suffering from stuffiness even after using the mentioned drops.

Do not worry. At this age, this is very common.
My suggestions:

1. Use bulb sucker ( deflate fully before inserting into nostril and inflate ). This will suck out the secretions from nostrils tip.

2. Use nasoclear drops regularly, say even six times a day before feeding.
Both these measures will help your baby recover faster.

However, if the baby doesn't settle despite this, better to consult your Pediatrician.
Wishing him a speedy recovery
Regards
