Is Unprotected Intercourse Safe Soon After Discontinuing Femilon?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Aug 2015
Question: Hi,

Sorry to repeat my question again but I am still not clear with femilon concept.

I was told that taking femilon is the safest option. I have been taking this medicine from past 3 months. And I just finished my last pill on 27th july. Is it safe to have unprotected intercourse even when am not on pills..8 mean are these 7 days are also safe? If not then should I take contraceptive pill today because we had unprotected intercourse and not planning for an year.

Brief Answer:
Yes, you are protected.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
I will try to explain and clarify the matter further, hope that will help you.
Femilon contains 21 pills in a pack ( active pills ).
Then you are pill free for a week ( 7 days ) and then restart again.
AM I clear so far ?
So when you finish your pill pack, you are safe for the next 7 days too, because ovulation too has been suppressed that month, and you are basically waiting for your period while you are not on any pills.
There is no need to take any more pills.
Just start after the 7 pill free days.
HOpe this is clear ?
PLease feel free to discuss further.

Thank you.
Why I repeated my question was due to sudden lower abdominal pain after the intercourse. It had never happened before ever. Till now I feel little cramp on right side of the abdomen.
Also how many months before do I need to stop taking these pills to conceive in future.

Brief Answer:
As below

Detailed Answer:
If the pain happens again after intercourse, then go for a pelvic ultrasound scan and an internal exam with vaginal swab and culture.
That will rule out an infection , cyst etc.
When you stop taking the pills, most women conceive within 3 months, many do so within the immediate next month also.
Take care.

Hi,

Today is the 8th day after completing my femilon pack and I still haven't got periods. Please advise
doctor
Answered by Dr. Aarti Abraham (28 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Just take a pregnancy test.

Detailed Answer:
Well, please take a pregnancy test.
If it is negative, then do not worry.
At times, you might not have a period while on Femilon, as it reduces menstrual bleeding.
You should start your new pack on schedule.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about.

Detailed Answer:
No, there is nothing to worry.
On the pill, the menstrual blood flow actually decreases.
If the pregnancy test is negative, there is nothing to worry about.
Take care.
Thank you for the appreciation.

Hi,

So I did the test today morning and it was negative. The blood flow is very less...I mean its only a dark thick clot. What should I do. ..m panicking! Its the second day and there is hardly any period but just thick clot.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to be done, it is normal !

Detailed Answer:
I told you, please relax.
The pregnancy test is negative, so do not worry.
WHen you are on the hormonal birth control pill, the period becomes scanty and reduces in amount.
Please continue to take the pill, that is a common effect of the pill.
YOu need to do nothing at all.
Take care

This has never happened before. I have been taking this medicine for more than 3 months. There is no bleeding at all. Is there any medicine which I should take to get periods. Should I take another test tomorrow morning as today the sample did had little blood particles. I just don't want to be pregnant at this stage.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Aarti Abraham (23 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Trust me you are not pregnant.

Detailed Answer:
You are not pregnant.
Please do not worry.
If you want to take another test, go ahead and take it for your reassurance, but I do not find it necessary.
As I told you , when you are on this medicine, often the period might be scanty and reduced in quantity.
You have to take my word for it please.
