Brief Answer:
About autoimmune distruction in type 1 Diabetes:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
I can understand your concern regarding to a 7 year old child diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes.
Well, now it is approved that Type 1 diabetes is a T cell-mediated autoimmune disease.
As you may know, Beta cells in the pancreas produce insulin. In type 1 diabetes, another type of white blood cells known as B lymphocytes work to activate the autoreactive T cells, or T lymphocytes, to destroy the beta cells in the pancreas.
The damaged cells cannot carry glucose to cells causing it to build up in the blood, leading to type 1 diabetes.
This is a summarized mechanism, but if you need a detailed one i can attach some studies that explain it in details.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
