Question: Symptoms being treated for: Ascites, Hepatic Encephalopothy, Portal Hypertension. Symptoms that are showing: Weakness, Fatigue, Loss of appetite, Nausea, Vomiting, Weight loss, Spider veins.
Person in Question has know Cirrhosis. My question: Is this situation more likely to be compensated or non-compensated? I am losing sleep worrying about this person.

Hi,

The complications you describe to cirrhosis (ascites, encephalopathy, portal hypertension) all define non-compensated disease.
I am sorry to say that the prognosis is not good.

What would be the long term? What would be a short term. The person in question is still drinking approximately 20 oz. vodka per day.

Hi,

This is end stage liver disease. It is impossible to say how long he has left. Liver transplantation is our of the question if he still drinks alcohol. TIPS may be an alternative, but he should see a gastroenterologist for this.
