Question: I had an endoscopy today under proforol sedation for maybe twenty minutes. I took two 25mg Benadryl later because I thought I was having a reaction to food. Is that safe?

Answered by Dr. Rakesh Madhyastha (26 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Drug interaction present

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Propofol and benadryl when taken together increases the sedation and central nervous system depression. However no treatment is required and the effect tends to wear down on it's own after 4-6 hours.

Here is what you should do
1. Do not drive for the next few hours
2. Avoid heights
3. Avoid being around sharp objects
4. Do not repeat the dose of benadryl for the next 12 hours.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Would it cause my anxiety to be worse and make me kind of shaky feeling?

Answered by Dr. Rakesh Madhyastha (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Could make you shaky

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back

Benadryl can make you a little shaky and anxious, the effect will reduce in a couple of hours. Furthermore, this is because of benadryl itself and not a drug interaction.

Brief Answer:
Air comes out after endscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome back to HCM

Thanks for getting back, I am sorry for the short delay in my reply.

During the endoscopy it is normal to have burping, some of patients have burping 12-16 hours after endoscopy as well and it is normal. Throat hurts because of local trauma during the scopy and it is normal to have a foreign body sensation in the throat, it will settle down on its own and requires no treatment.

I am not sure why you have air feeling in the throat, if you have difficulty breathing then please see the doctor immediately to rule out perforation/ sinus formation.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
