default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: I have a lung infection which is starting to clear up, on doxycycline 100mg twice a day, is it safe to take co-codamol 30/500 with this? im worried because co-codamol is a lung depressant and it makes it worse? i have a really bad back at the moment, injured during exercise, and have not taken any painkillers since i was prescribed these anti-biotics and my back pain has been awful.

Brief Answer:
Better to take simple painkiller like ibuprofen.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Co codamol is having codeine plus paracetamol.
Codeine should not be given routinely. It can cause respiratory center depression.
So better not to take Co codamol especially when you are having lung infection. It might worsen your lung infection.
You can take simple painkiller like ibuprofen for your back pain.
Local application of warm water pad is also beneficial. Physiotherapy is also helping in backache.
Continue doxycyclin.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you you good health. Thanks.
