Hi XXXXXXX,

Elephantiasis also known as filariasis is a disease cause by protozoa called filaria (Wuchuria b). These protozoa after getting in blood grow rapidly and block small vessels that drain lymph fluid from skin and tissue, thus the skin starts getting swollen and thickened, and looks like elephant’s leg and hydrocele.

Medical therapy as your doctor may start may consist of DEC drug given for 21 days to destroy the filaria.

This may not solve the swelling of limbs. That may need surgery at times in the form of resection with or without plastic surgery.

Do read basic care for filaria or elephantiasis patients at www.aarogya.com look for "treatment of lymphatic filariasis".

The surgeries are tedious and do consume time.

Following institute has pioneered as "Institute of applied dermatology" for treatment of filariasis in India, mixing modern and ancient therapies.
Institute of Applied Dermatology, Registered Office: Nayak’s Road, Kasaragod, 671 121, Kerala, South India
Project Office:Kotekani Road, Kasaragod, 671 121,Kerala, South India
Phone: 0000-0000, 0000, 0000, 0000

Ayurveda and Yoga: a 2weeks therapy costing around 0000Rs, includes A skin wash, dipping the infected leg in ayurvedic skin tonic, massaging and medicines.
