Posted on Sat, 11 Apr 2015
Question: I work 8 hours a day in front of the computer. so far i have not had any serious issues with eyesight, but i fear i might. I use "teardrops" eye drops to lubricate my eyes twice a day. can you suggest if this drop is safe to use for long term, and also some best practices to follow.

Brief Answer:
Tear drops can be used safely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
Tear drops are artificial tears eye drops and can be used safely for long time. It is very safe to use artificial tears and no problem will occur, no need to be worried.

People who use computers or laptops for long continuous hours are known to have dryness of eyes and this is called as computer vision syndrome.

Hence to avoid this I advice few practices as below.

1. Avoid continuous use of computer or laptop by taking frequent breaks in between. A break of about 5 minutes after working for 2 hours is usually sufficient. Try to blink as much as possible while using computers to prevent dryness of eyes.

2. Avoid exposure to smoke, dust, wind....

3. Avoid the use of fan or air conditioner as far as possible as they increase dryness of eyes.

4. Wash eyes with normal water 1-2 times a day.

5. Use of anti-glare glasses will prevent dryness of eyes to some extent.

Hope I have answered your question and this information is helpful to you.

Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards
