Is Swollen Gland Symptom Of HIV?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 Jun 2014
Question: i had a cold or sinus probelem, took antihistimine during the day and benadryl at night,it cleared up all except my left gland began swelling.i went to doc and got amoxicillin, it worked immediately and now all is well. my secondary question is i had unprotected vaginal and oral sex ( no ejaculation on either act) but 6 days after is when my allergies started acting up.i keep reading that a swollen gland is asign of hiv, i took a blood test at 2weeks and was non reactive.if i am better from the antibiotics and had no other hiv symptons, can hiv be ruled out for me? i also took a plan b pilll and had read some things online there where women had a swollen gland from taking it as well?

Brief Answer:
PCR test for HIV mRNA recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Please do Relax. It appears that you had a viral fever...period.
Rarely Plan B may give this effect but any swelling of glands does not mean HIV infection. To be extra sure, please do a PCR test for HIV mRNA & this will pick up even a few viral copies at 2 weeks interval.
I trust this will have calmed your fears & given you a clear action plan to put you at ease. HIV can be ruled out for you in principle...do the test & then put it past you. But please do consider always taking precautions in the future & practice "safe sex" to not get to this crossroad again.
Good Luck & Wish you continued Good Health & a fruitful life!

Brief Answer:
Any lab will do the test;Yes it can be done NOW

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Quite understand your feeling & empathise.
Yes you can take it now & need to go across to any good laboratory set up or hospital to do the same.
Another thing I forgot to mention is that if you do know the person you had the unprotected contact with, then a good bet would be to check with him if all is Ok regards his HIV status & if he was tested recently...(apologies, I assumed it was a one-off contact with a stranger).
Good Luck & personally I don't envisage a problem & think you should be fine. Do let me know of the result & stay in touch. Cheers!
