Brief Answer:
Yes! It is safe.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
I have seen your wife report she is having paronychia with ingrown toenail.( infection of nail and nail fold)
Treatment advise- 1)conservative 2) Surgical
Conservative-
- Soak your foot in Epsom salt water and warm water
- After soakage apply antibiotic ointment and steroid ointment
- apply Neosporin powder
- Use oral antibiotic
- never cut the nail
- use cotton wisps, splint over it
If it is not heal then go for surgical treatment because infection is more harmful to your baby than surgical drainage.
Please do not worry!
Do not use phenol during procedure.
It is a small surgery, do not worry about it.
If she needs surgical drainage go for it.
Hope I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.
Regards
Dr. Richa
