Is Spotting And Stomach Cramps A Serious Concern In Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I am 25 years old and married for One and a half years. In Oct 2014, I had conceived and was almost 8 weeks. I started having cramps and light spotting. When I consulted my doctor, he did a ultrasound scan and it found to be molar pregnancy. We waited for 1 more week and then did D & C. After that doctors advised us not to get conceive for next 6 months atleast or till one year. Meanwhile every 15 days we tested for preg test and it was negative only.

My cycles are normal from then on. Now again I have conceived. My LMP was 7th April. Now and then I am getting cramps and also had light spotting on 19th May. Is there anything to worry or is that okay. I am consulting the same doctor. He has given me follic acid tablets and prostragen to take orally. I weight 38kgs.

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You can eat XXXXXXX or any other food. That is no problem.

I suggest avoid travelling for 2 months as you need to take rest.

Get complete blood test done to see why weakness is there. Is it anemia.

Hi,

Since I had spotting on saturday I consulted a doctor. She did TVS and it showed no sac found. After that she asked me to take Beta HCG test and I gave the blood same day. I got my reports yesterday and it shows 14157 mlU/ml.

She asked me to repeat the test on 21st and asked me to come for scan next monday.

Meanwhile, she has told my sister that she is not satisfied with the growth wrt the B-HCG results. She is suspecting recurrent molar pregnancy. She doesnt want to conclude now but would wait. She also have asked to get TVS scan outside as a second opinion.

Wat is meanth by no sac? How will it affect my pregnancy? What needs to be done now?

Brief Answer:
ectopic

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. This could be ectopic pregnancy.

2. Get a second opinion immediately by another TVS.

3. Molar pregnancy has to be ruled out only after this.

4. Please get a TVS done immediately and send me report.

hi Doctor,

I got my TVS done yesterday. It says Sac seen. No heartbeats found. 6.2 weeks . Missed abortion.

My doctor saw the reports and asked me to wait for another 2 weeks before we do the next scan.

Also I have given blood for HCG test and expecting results by evening. Only my endomitrine thickness is 19mm

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Blighted ovum

Detailed Answer:
Hi

This appears to be blighted ovum. A type of pregnancy where no fetal pole or heart beat seen.

Atleast molar pregnancy is not there.

Wait for repeat beta hCG blood test. Follow doctor's advice meanwhile.

Hi Doctor,

With continuation to the above query,

I did my HCG test on 21/05/14 and it showed 24500 and again i repeated on 31/05/14 it showed 54000.

I did a TVS scan on 31/05/14 and it was 7weeks 4 days according to my LMP but doctor said the growth is only about 6 weeks and faint heartbeat could be seen. Also few tissue kind is seen.

Then she referred me to radiologist. Same day I went to him and he did Ultrasound scan. He repeatedly asked if my LMP was correct and if I had my cycles regular and all that. Later he said he don't see any tissues but the growth is only about 6 weeks and no heartbeat found. Asked me to repeat the scan after one week.

What is happening with me? I don't have any symptoms as I had in my last pregnancy which failed because of Molar. I only feel tired and hungry. From saturday IU am not liking sour smell n taste.

Brief Answer:
Early pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This seems to be early pregnancy.

It is not necessary that you should experience symptoms of pregnancy.

The growth is lagging. By now you should have seen heart beat. Beta hCG blood test levels are not significant at this stage.

I suggest you continue with medicines and repeat a transvaginal scan after 10 days. If no heart beat by then means it is not a healthy viable pregnancy and termination might be required.

What is the reason behind this? What must be done for this growth? Is this something to do with the food

Last year my sis was pregnant and even after 8 weeks heartbeat wasn't found and it was terminated.

Why does the heartbeat doesn't occur?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Mahesh Koregol (6 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Genetic abnormality

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Absent heartbeat means missed abortion. This happens commonly if there is some genetic abnormality in the embryo.

This can be detected if you send your abortion material for chromosomal analysis. This might be running in your family as your sister is also facing same problem.

If you are in XXXXXXX you can meet me in XXXXXXX IVI fertility, Sadashivanagar, XXXXXXX and discuss with reports. I can repeat a scan if necessary and explain better.
