Is Smoking Marijuana After Iridotomy Procedure Safe?

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: I had an iridotomy procedure done today. How long should I wait before it is okay to smoke weed? Can I wait until this weekend? Does smoking weed affect the eye or recovery in this case?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Marijuana has several vasoactive effects on the eyes. This is why they often get red after smoking. Smoking marijuana within 14 days of an iridotomy or within 14 days after one is highly dangerous and could result in blindness. Do not do this.

Thanks - does this apply for anything marijuana related? I have a vaporizor - not sure if that changes things.
