Question: I feel like I can't get enough air. Shortness of breath and I'm worried about my heart. I have had aortic stenosis since birth but it's always been very mild. What is causing my shortness of breath?

Brief Answer:
I would recommend performing some tests to investigate for the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Your symptoms could be related to anxiety.

Anyway, based on your past medical history (congenital aortic stenosis), I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing some tests:

- a resting ECG and a cardiac ultrasound to examine your cardiac function
- a chest X ray study and respiratory function tests for possible lung disorder
- blood lab tests (complete blood count, blood electrolytes, PCR, sedimentation rate for inflammation)

If all the above tests result normal, you should consider anxiety as the main cause of your symptomatology.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
