Is Severe Headache A Caffeine Withdrawal Symptom?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Mar 2016
Question: For three days I've had a splitting headache, especially at the base of my skull and temples. My glands under my ears are tender, and I've had severe muscle aches at night in my neck, back, and legs. I gave up caffeine three days ago...could this be due to caffeine withdrawal? It seems more severe, and perhaps I should call my doctor.
Thank you. Paulette XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Caffeine withdrawal symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

The answer to your question is yes, headaches and muscles aches are among the withdrawal symptoms from caffeine.

Those and other possible symptoms (such irritability, sleepiness, depression, constipation etc.) could take up to one month to subside, for this reason is recommended to gradually wean off of caffeine, instead of stopping it suddenly.

Other measures to ease caffeine withdrawal include pain reliever drugs, plenty of fluids, and exercise.

If there are other concerns such fever, since your glands feel enlarged, you can contact your primary care Doctor and discuss about your concerns.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
