Posted on Wed, 13 Jan 2016
Question: I have stage 1 prostate cancer. My doctor recommends radiation therapy (not seeds) and I am not sure that this procedure is better than the robotic surgery. Does rad. treatment offer the best results? I am 69 yo.
What other damage will all this radiation cause?

Brief Answer:
radiotherapy is a good modality

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query. Results of prostate cancer stage 1 is good irrespective of whether surgery or radiotherapy is done. However, side effects are different. Surgery is one time procedure but is invasive. Radiotherapy goes on for weeks but is non- invasive. Your doc can guide you through individual side effects. Here is a nice link which will give you all info regarding pros and cons of treatment.
