Is Pulverizing Procedure Advisable After Failed Kidney Stone Removal?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 Oct 2015
Question: I went in for a surgery yesterday to remove a kidney stone. The surgery was unsuccessful. as my ureter was too narrow and the dr installed a stint from kidney to bladder to expand ureter and plan is to go in within 2 weeks and try to remove again. They told me I can try the pulverizer tomorrow morning but will have more pain and possible bleeding. Do you recommend pulverizing two days after the unsuccessful surgery where I already have blood and soreness? They told me I also have to drink a bottle of magnesium nitrate but since Sunday at noon I have only eaten pretzels and one piece of pizza. Would I really need to drink a while 10 oz bottle of magnesium citrate and if I do will it cause a great deal of stomach discomfort if stomach and bowels are not full?

Brief Answer:
No need to pulverize.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting your query.

See if you opt for pulverization, it shall break your stone into small pieces which need to pass through your ureter. Since your ureter is narrow there is a possibility that the pulverized kidney stone may get obstructed in the ureter and may cause severe pain and bleeding in urine.Hence I don't recommend pulverization.

As long as drinking Magnesium nitrate is concerned yes you have to drink it but you can drink it in breaks rather than taking it at a time.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.

Regards.
