Question: I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Grade T1c, XXXXXXX score 6, PSA 7.
Am considering Proton therapy vs. IMRT.
Thoughts?

These two radiation modalities have never been studied head to head in clinical trials.

Proton beam therapy as you know is a newer technology. Radiation oncologist have had excellent results with this particular technology and argue that it may provide fewer long-term side effects.

At the same time IMRT remains the gold standard for radiation therapy.I would suggest that you sit down with the radiation oncologist and ask them to provide some statistics regarding equivalence or superiorityof proton beam therapy.

I believe that either one of these therapies will likely provide you with an optimal outcome. I think it really comes down to a thorough discussion with the radiation oncologist to help you make a decision.
