Is Pregnancy Possible When On Birth Control Pills?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015
Question: Hi I've been on birth control for 10 years. I am halfway through my last pack that expired two months ago. All pills up to this point were taken correctly and not expired. I had unprotected sex and took plan b to be safe. Is there a good chance that I am not pregnant?

Brief Answer:
Yes, chances are high that you may not be pregnant!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Chances are high that you may not be pregnant as you took plan B which has a very high success rate especially when taken before 72hours. Also, when was the last time you had you regular menses before the unprotected sexual encounter?

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Thanks for trusting us with your health question today!

Thank you for your prompt response. My last regular menses was two weeks prior to the sexual encounter. I took plan B 12 hours later. My menses has been regular for the past five years, can I anticipate it will be at the regular time this month?

Thank you Dr Ditah

Brief Answer:
Are you on any birth control now?

Detailed Answer:
Hi, because you stopped, I will recommend you start a new pack on the first day of your menses so as to reset the clock and stick to the rhythm. Wait for menses before starting the new pack. Talk to me when in need an I will gladly address your concern.

I wish you well.
