Is Pregnancy Possible Despite Taking Oral Contraceptive?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 May 2016
Question: I had unprotected sex wth my boyfriend. I usually have 27 days menstrual period cycle and most of the months it is on time. This month I was supposed to get it on 15th of this month (27days cycle) But I didnt get it this month. I didnt have sex on any other previous days to cause the delay.
On 18th of this month (30 days cycle), I had unprotected sex. Within 9 hours I consumed ipill. Are there chances of me getting pregnant?

Brief Answer:
No risk of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I am sorry that you consider this a delayed reply.
A primary question ( first ) question is answered generally within one hour, and I did that within minutes.
A follow up question is answered within a time frame of 24 hours, and I am doing it within 4 hours :)
Now for your query.
There is actually no risk of getting pregnant by having unprotected sex on the 18th of this month.
Having sex just before your period carries no risk of pregnancy.
You would be having your periods soon, do not worry.
Take care.

Extremely sorry for asking the question on delayed reply. I guess it is the tension I am currently going through.

Thank you for the assurance that I should be having my periods soon. Do i have to take any medicines to get my periods on time? Is it safe? I live in UAE and hence getting certain pills may not be possible here.

I know it is too soon as its is only 2 days delay from 1 month cycle. But I usually get it bang on time hence the concern.

I was on certain antibiotics for fever during 1st week of march plus I was doing intense Gym exercises. Do these factors be the delay in pregnancy?

Detailed Answer:
I can understand your anxiety, please do not worry.
Please do not take any more medications.
You have already taken the I pill.
I pill contains hormones that can make your periods irregular and unpredictable.
So if you take any more pills, it may further complicate things.
At 45, periods may get slightly irregular.
That could be the reason.
Plus antibiotics and exercise can lead to a delay in periods.
If you are so worried, you can take a pregnancy test, but that is only for your peace of mind, as I am 100 % sure that it will be negative.
Please do not worry.
The I pill itself can cause upto one week delay in periods.
So just wait, you will get your periods.
Take a test if you are so anxious, although it will definitely be negative.
Take care.

Dear Doctor,

Thank you for your reply. Since my 30 day month cycle was 18th of March. Ideally I should wait for at least further 1 week, am i right? this is for checking if I do get my periods and if there is a delay to do a pregnancy test.
Doing a pregnancy test at this early stage would be negative I understand.

thanking in advance.

Brief Answer:
Yes, no point in taking the test right now.

Detailed Answer:
Yes please wait for atleast one more week.
However I am sure by then you will get your period.
Taking a pregnancy test at this time will be inaccurate.
Take care.

What is the usual delay in periods because of taking ipill? Like 5 days or more? Or it can be much delayed?
