Is Pregnancy Possible After Having An Intercourse During Non Ovulation Period?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: Hi ,

My period came on 18 of september. I had intercourse with my husband on the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth day (25 of september) of my period.

after that I did not have sex at all. since I am extremely anxious, he used double condom and pull out like at one minute before he ejaculate, he did this on all occasions. also I did water test on condom every time and there was no leakage or anything.

I am using ovulation kits for pregnancy prevention, and today is day 16 of cycle, and I did not ovulate yet, I mean I still did not get an LH rise.

last two months I had initial LH rise on day 16 of cycle. the ovulation test proves to me that I am not pregnant, at the same time I count 9 days after LH rise to have sex with my husband again with condom and pull out.

Please help I am super worried I hope that I ovulate. There are some scary stories on the net that says that sperm can live up to 7 days inside body, I am scared if some sperm leaked even though I did maximum precaution, please help. what are the chances of getting pregnant ?

thanks

Brief Answer:
You are not pregnant!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these troubling thoughts going through your mind. It is understandable especially when we do not want to become pregnant at the moment.

I have reviewed your information fully. There are just no chances that you are pregnant at this tie give your sexual history. Sperms surviving 7days in the genital organs is really a rare observation and rarely happens. Do not get worried by this.

I know with the ovulation kits not being very clear about your ovulation, you are even more worried. Remember this test is not 100% reliable. Putting your sexual history and the results of the test together, my conclusion is that you are not pregnant.

My advice is that you stay calm and wait patiently for your menses. You would be okay. Seek no further medical attention at this time until we obtain more information that warrants so.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Hello Dr,

thank you for your answer, so if sperm did survive waiting to fertilize an egg, does LH have to rise first before egg released ?

i mean since LH did not rise does that mean egg is not released or it means egg is fertilized so no need for LH to rise ?

thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up question.

An egg must be released before there could be any fertilization if by any magical ways the sperm survived for this long. With a no rise in LH, it suggests that an egg has not been released. Because you are sure of your state before this, it means pregnancy could not be the reason for failure of ovulation. And with no ovulation, as suggested by the test, there is no way that fertilization and pregnancy can take place.

I hope this is clear to you. I wish you well. If you have any further worries, I would gladly address them..
