Is Postponing Induced Labor Safe With A Dilated Cervix And Mucus Plug?

Posted on Wed, 27 Sep 2017
Question: Hello,

I am 38weeks of pregnancy, today I had vaginal bleeding in the morning and we consulted our gynaecologist. She did internal check and confirmed that it was mucus plug and cervix diluted upto 2cms. But I didnt have contractions and they asked for inducing labor. But I asked to wait till I get contractions naturally and doctor said OK to wait till coming Wednesday. Is that good sign and is that OK to wait after mucus plug or not. What is the chance of having normal delivery with inducing labor . Can I continue doing walking and squats. I am just having little cramps in lower abdomen

Brief Answer:
Induction advised

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Once the cervix starts dilating, it will progressively dilate of the normal or induced uterine contractions are there.
So, it was is advisable to get induced contractions once the mucus plug is expelled.
This is so because one can go into non progress of labour or sudden rupture of membranes, which are to be dealt as soon as possible.
There are fair chances of normal delivery when one is induced for labour if the other factors like pelvic canal and baby size are appropriate.
You can continue walking and squatting.
However, I will suggest you to get induction of labour.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Brief Answer:
Induction Better

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, there are chances of rupture of membranes, non progress of labour etc.
You can wait for spontaneous labour, provided you reach to the hospital if there is any leaking of waters, fever, bleeding, decreased fetal movements etc.
