Thanks for posting the query

Yes, the initial phases of upper pharyngitis and sinusitis are contagious because it is of viral in origin. But, in adults the infection is not that severe when compared to that of children. Children lack immunity and hence they are prone for cross infections. But, in adults it is not as severe, as the immune response in adults is far better than that of the children.

Even though the virus can spread through fomites and breathing, it is not going to infect everyone in the surrounding. Only those susceptible individuals can attract infection.

Hence, I can assure you that the URTI with which you are suffering from are less contagious unlike other serious disease such as tuberculosis, measles, chicken pox, etc.

Hope I have answered your queries; I will be available for the follow-up queries.

I am 39 years old, 1.7m tall, and 86kg weight. I have had chicken pox in year 2000 and genital herpes 2003.

Presently, I always have gas in my system whenever I eat foods like fish, meat, beans, egg, etc. I have recurring constipation and diarrhea associated with stomach pains, and always feel bloated. I have difficulty in passing out faeces; practically have to force it out. Sometimes it comes out with patches of blood and a horrible rotten smell. I feel my digestive system is not functioning well. also I do not feel that my urine is emptied, some drops come out after I have finished. My lower abdomen around waist region is always tight. Various medics have advised that I take high fiber foods and drink lots of water. I do these, but I think my digestive system need to be properly looked into. Blood sugar averaged for last 3 months at 5.8mmol
