Penicillins are the drug of choice for this infections though other antibiotics can be used if there is an allergy to these medications

The penicillins interfere with the new production of cell walls when the bacteria is trying to multiply and they effectively kill this bacteria.
The penicillin can be combined with gentamicin for added efficacy
