Question: Had protected anal sex 6 weeks ago. Partner's HIV condition unknown. At 5 weeks had blood in semen. Took ELISA test at 6 weeks negative. I need information. Tks
Dear Dr. this is my situation,

Im a Bisexual man who had protected anal sex with an unknown person. HIV condition unknown. 5 weeks after expousure, I had a blood clot coming out of my semen after masturbation; then, 2 days after I saw some amount of blood in semen. I inmediatly got examined by an Urologist who sayd that my condition is known as Hematospermia. e prescribed Levofloxaxine for 20 days, after detecting that my testicles size is a bit bigger than normal (20,48 cm). Then, I took an ELISA test (by myself) after 5 weeks and a half after exposure, the result was NO REACTIVE, however, I am very concerned about the possibilities of being infected with HIV. What is you opinion about my case? I had also a sifilis test with a NO REACTIVE result, so I dont know what could be causing blood in semen. I really appreciate your time!

Brief Answer:
Blood in semen might be due to just infection or trauma, No HIV............

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
You had protected sex, so there is no issue of HIV.
If you still have doubt, do ELISA test after 3 months as at 5 weeks always negative.
But I am sure after 3 months test will be same means negative.
So please don't worry and enjoy your life.
Hope these all will be helpful to you.
Take care...

Dear Dr.

I really appreciate your answer.

I still have a couple of doubts and questions regarding my pathology.

1) I have read in many health websites, including governmental, that Hematospermia could be caused by diffenrent STD's including HIV, however, in other websites, specially those who have doctor's opinions, they do not make a relation between Hematospermia and HIV. Could you please be more specific on this matter?

2) I have read in many websites that, the human body will produce antibodies for HIV in 95% of infected people in the first 4 weeks, then the remaining 5% between weeks 4-12 after infection. You said testing for HIV is negative at week 5 1/2 after possible infection. Is there any chance ELISA test could detect HIV antibodies by week 5 1/2? Does it really never gives you a result at week 5 1/2?

3) Is there any deep explanation for clot blood in semen? Specially for people who have never had this kind of pathology before?

4) Knowing my situation, what can you relate Hematospermia with?

5) I am attaching pictures of laboratory test, testicles ecography, and prostate ecography. I appreciate your comments.

Thank you very much for your help again,

Best Regards,

Brief Answer:
ELISA not give concclusive at 4-5 weeks.DNA PCR is best......

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcom.
Yes, haematospermia is one of the reasons of HIV but not the most one.
Most common are continue fever, diarrhoea, weight loss, cough etc.
These symptoms take time to developed means months to years after HIV infection.
Do DNA PCR test which is more conclusive.
Don't worry and take care...
