Is Multiple Sclerosis Heritable From Mother To Son?
7-10% is transmission rate.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Health Care Magic, Thanks for writing to us,
I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad, I have read your question, I understand your concern and will try to help you in the best possible way.
I am sorry to know about your mother, I would share with you some recent data about mother passing MS to the child.
MS is not considered to be hereditary disease but still if one's parents or parent (mother in your case) happens to have M.S, there are more chances of him getting the M.S.
Researcher XXXXXXX Ebers, MD, professor of clinical neurology at the University of Oxford, said referring to his research results that:
researchers found a risk of transmission of the disease from mothers with, 9.76% of mothers passing MS to their children.
In a research Sadovnick AD, Bulman D, Ebers GC. Parent-child concordance
in multiple sclerosis: Out of 780 children born to mothers with MS.. 53 had a M.S which is roughly about 7%
So I would say in old researches it has been said that incidence is 2% but new careful data says that transmission of MS from an affected mother is about 7-10% variation is there depending upon the genes which cause MS , some types of MS have more incidence rate some have less. Data is yet being collected on specific types.
No credible research work is available yet on individual types but over all transmission is 7-10%
I Hope this answers your question, if your have more queries feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it. Wish you the best of health.

There are few points to be considered.
Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
Thanks for writing back, their study can be relied upon but there have to be many other studies proving the same point that MS incidence is less than what previously was thought.
Secondly it mostly focusses on Swedish population. And studies I gave your focus on Canadian and XXXXXXX population , so they can not be compared as such, At the moment 7-10% is proven by more studies. but every study in the end says that there can be flaws in that like population groups and human errors etc.
I would ask you not to panic you can consult your doctor and get any screening tests if doctor suggests. Though there are no sure shot screening tests only predisposition can be estimated.
Stay blessed.
Regards Dr.Muhammad Ahmad
