Question: My 9 month old daughter has a fever of 100.9 *F. We have given her first dose of MMR few days back and after that she was doing fine. This change in temperature is observed today. Do we need to rush her to the hospital or is it ok to give her SUMO(paracetamol) and wait till tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Mild fever with rash is common following MMR vaccination

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

Fever with or without rash after 4-6 days of MMR vaccination is a very common finding in infants.
Fever after MMR vaccination is just an immunological response and in most of the cases it subsides within 3-5 days.
I won't get overly worried for the fever if baby is otherwise active, playful, accepting feeds well and there are no other significant complaints. I request you to give antipyratic like paracetamol with plenty of fluids. Observe closely for any significant abnormality and if you notice any please consult your pediatrician immediately.

Hope this helps you.
I shall be glad to help you if you have any more doubt.
Regards

Thanks for your response.

Just wanted to update you that the MMR was given on 11-Feb-2017 and it is more than 10 days now. I hope that this fever is still related to MMR.

As suggested, we will give her paracetamol with fluids and see how she responds.

Brief Answer:
I agree with you

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up

I agree with you as although most of the babies develop fever on 4-7 days of vaccination, it may occur till 11-12 days. Continue with PCM and observe.
I shall be glad to help if you need any.
Wishing for your baby's good health.
Thanks again

We are giving her sumo paracetamol 0.5 to 1 ml from day before yesterday and so far given it 5 times with approx gap of 6 to 8 hours.

Today morning the fever was 101.3 * F and we gave her 1 ml sumo paracetamol. Now the fever has come down. Yesterday also after giving Sumo fever had come down.

Should we observe it 1 more day or is it better to take her to pediatrician today itself.

You may observe for one more day if there is no other problem

Hi

As today is third day still you may observe the baby for one more day if baby is otherwise normal and accepting feeds well.
Thanks and regards
