Stap bacteria is a common commensal on the skin. It can remain harmlessly on the skin in most people. It causes troubles when it gets deep into the skin. Therefore as long as stap strains are above skin surface, untreated infection aren't troublesome.

However if the patient has symptoms of stap infection - resistant (MRSA) or common non resistant strains, it is evident that the strains are virulent and deep seated. And such virulent / deep seated infection should be treated. If left untreated, there are chances of a worse outcome, as organs system may be irreversibly damaged if not treated on time .

Complications from MRSA can occur in almost all organ system. For example permanant damage to kidney, endocarditis (heart muscle infection), )lung infection( abscess, pneumonia), necrotising facitis, osteomylitis ( infection of bones , skin and muscles) and can spread all over in the body (sepsis).

So complicated MRSA can cause worse outcome( death).

MRSA is type of stayphlococcus strain , which can cause worse infection all over body and causes spikes of fever and other symptoms according to organ involved in just few weeks if left untreated. This is what my experience has been with MRSA strains.

From your description, it seemed like a localised skin infection which left behind pigmented spot (post inflammatory pigmentation). Post inflammatory pigmentation in most cases eventually fade away with time. Unresolved pigmentation usually doesn't cause troubles in future.

Now, all localised skin infection or pus can not be MRSA, as there are other types of bacteria which would have caused your infection. If it was MRSA it could have caused worse outcome. That being said MRSA strains can be recognized only with swab test and blood culture.

Since you now have no other symptoms apart from post inflammatory pigmentation, I wouldn't be worried about MRSA. However if you notice similar bumps and pus discharging lesions, it is advisable to see a doctor and ask for swab/culture tests.
