Is Medical Consultation Required If Left Areola Is Thick And Rough?
I had a huge lump in my left breast which was removed by a surgery in May 2016. The mass was sent for a biopsy and the reports confirmed that it was a Tubularadenoma. Things were almost fine after the surgery except my for my aerola which used to get dry and flaky often for which my doctor recomended vaseline.
I delivered a baby this May (2017) and i have been excusively breast feeding him. Since last one month, i have been noticing that he is not very comfortable on my Left breast. He will unlatch every minute or so and kind of refusing it. However, he still can have it when he is very sleepy or hungry but generally prefers mu right breast everytime .
I tried checking the flow of milk by hand expressing and it looked similar to that of my right breast.
Both the breast lookasimilar but it is just that the skin of my left aerola is little thick and rough (has very tiny bumps) .
Please suggest what could be reason of refusalf one breast with my kid ?
i dont feel any lumps after my surgery. Should i get myself checked up again ?
Side preference
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Babies are known to have side preference for the breast.
Usually, they are comfortable feeding on right breast as they prefer that position.
If the milk flow is adequate from a breast, then the baby may have latching difficulties on that side.
This can be the other cause of refusal to feed.
Usually lumps do not lead to such situation.
However, if you are apprehensive, then you should get examined by an OBGYN specialist to rule out any lump or abnormality in the breast.
Otherwise, feed him on right side and on left side, when he accepts it.
There is absolutely nothing to worry.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
