Is Loss Of Sensation From The Waist Down Leading To Loss Of Balance In A Dialysis Patient A Serious Issue?

Question: Hello Doctor,

I have a query regarding my one of the aunt.
Just to give you a background - She is dialysis patient for last one and half months and takes 2 dialysis in a week.
Recently, she is experiencing a critical symptom of not getting any senses in legs starting from her waist region and fells down lacking balance in the lower portion of the body - it frequently occurs on a daily basis on both sides of the lower portion or if I am not wrong the sciatica region. We've consulted the nephrologist and he is unable to find out any reason for the symptom because of the dialysis. So, I am guessing this might be an issue related to nerve weaknesses or any other reason pertaining to nerve cells. Please suggest and help me.

Brief Answer:
Get examined and evaluated by a neurologist

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Weakness in lower limbs can occur due to neuropathy secondary to diabetes and renal dysfunction.
Lumbar region of spine involvement can also occur and requires imaging of spine.
Get an evaluation and examination by a neurologist to go ahead with planned investigations.
Vitamin D and Thyroid levels should be checked too.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
