Posted on Thu, 7 Jan 2016
Question: I am having keyhole surgery where some bone is being shaved away. I am having 3 small incisions. I am being put to sleep and also some kind of block. How long does this operation take and will it be very painful. I can only take Paracetamol due to many allergies. Is this a safe procedure and how long will I be off work?
My shoulder is agony but only on certain movements. I have not been offered anything else my surgeon says if it is not done my tendon my snap.
I am worried sick about the surgery with being a severe asthmatic. It is being carried out a private hospital and not NHS will they have the equipment to sort me out if I am poorly. Thanks please answer asap as I am really panicking about this operation. I think surgeon said it takes half an hour

Brief Answer:
No need to panic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The surgery you are going to have is likely to be a small and simple surgery. Such procedures usually need 30-45 minutes for surgery. Regional block can be used in your case.
Post operative pain is less and usually the person can join the duty in 7-10 days. You need not worry. You will be given adequate care in private hospital also. It all depends on the expertise of the surgeon.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
MRI scan is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Just a physical examination is not sufficient to know that you actually need a surgery. It is best to get an MRI scan done to find out the exact problem and the treatment needed.
Hope my answer is helpful.
