default
Posted on Mon, 20 Jul 2015
Question: Hi, my husband started taking celexa earlier this week. He has said that he has no emotion, nothing seems to make him happy, smile, or amused. Is this a side affect that should be reported immediately to his doctor or will his body adjust over time?

Brief Answer:
These symptoms will decrease over the time.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Celexa is Citalopram and the drug is a SSRI drug. When individuals start taking Celexa for first few weeks they may develop slight increase in restlessness, worsening of depressive symptoms. Some individuals may develop symptoms like apathy like he is having as lack of emotions, lack of happiness etc. These symptoms will reduce in about 2 weeks and no need to worry. The drug will start showing its effects in about 4 weeks and his other symptoms of anxiety and PTSD will also improve.

So in my opinion no need to report to doctor immediately.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care.
