Question: I am 2 weeks pregnant is it safe to use mifprex at home without going tk the dr.

Answered by Dr. Nidhi Setia (19 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Do not take the drug without doctor's advice.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.

Mifeprex contains mifepristone and used for termination of early pregnancy.

I would NOT suggest you to take this drug on your own without doctor's consultation.

Although cramping and bleeding are an expected part of terminating a pregnancy, rarely, serious and potentially life-threatening bleeding can occur in about 1 out of 100 women taking the drug.

SO, it would be safer for you to be in touch with your doctor when you take this drug.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to discuss further.

Kindly close the discussion if you are satisfied with the response and give your valuable feedback.

Take care.
Thanks.

Unfortunately I cannot go to the dr. I got pregnant by mistake and it is illegal in my country. so that's my only option to get abortion.
Can I know the right way to use these pills and what are the side effects?
also if you advise me with other pills or home/herbal remedies that can cause abortion I will be thankful.

Please help me I am soooo scared

Brief Answer:
self-induced abortion can be dangerous.

Detailed Answer:
Dear,
I can understand your concerns.

Right way to use mifeprex is to take three 200 mg tablets (600 mg in total) in a single oral dose (only under doctor's supervision).

But, the abortion has to be confirmed on day 3 of taking the drug by clinical or ultrasound examination.

The common side effects are:
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and headache.

Other than this drugs, the following foods are claimed to induce abortion (however, no sure shot home remedies):
papaya,
pineapple,
and sometimes citrus fruits.

Anyhow, abortion itself is a risky procedure and must be done under medical supervision.
(I understand the legal obligations but self-induced abortion can be dangerous).

Hope my suggestions help you.

I wish you well.

Thanks.

I really cannot go to the dr. I WILL BE KILLED IF SO cause the law seriously will force to kill me for that. I'D RATHER TAKE THAT RISK INSTEAD OF BEING KILLED.
Since I took the home pregnancy test yesterday and it was positive I started drinking cinnamon will this help?
So for the pills it's only 3 tablets should I swallow it or only put it under my mouth? What about putting some tablets vaginally as suggested in some website? What are the chance of failure?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Nidhi Setia (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
4-8% chances of medical abortion failure.

Detailed Answer:
I understand that you are in a tough situation at present.

Cinnamon is said to help in abortion. You can continue with it.

The mifeprex pills are to be swallowed.

The pills which are to be put vaginally are different. Those pills are misoprostol (prescription drug) tablets. These are to be placed intravaginally if there is no bleeding till day 3 after taking mifeprex.

There are around 4-8% chances of medical abortion failure.

Hope this addresses your concerns satisfactorily.

Take care.

I have read that the best way to use it is either

3 tablets orally then on the 3rd day to take 2-3 tablets of misoprostol orally as well

OR

1 tablet orally then the 3rd day take 3-4 tablets under the tounge for 30 mins then swallow the remaining

What do u recommend more and can the blood clot be heavy? How long does it normally last? What's the best pain killer to use in this procedure? Are thre any recommended medication to use with these abortion pills..

I am so scared and I just want to do it in the safest way possible that I don't harm myself nor my body or even cause any complications that causes my parents to know..

Brief Answer:
4 tablet misoprostol on day 3; tablet ibuprofen.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Sorry for the delayed response.

I recommend to my patients, 3 tablets of mifeprex (200 mg each tablet) followed by 4 tablets of misoprostol (200 microgram each) orally on day 3.
(to be taken under doctor's supervision).

The bleeding can be heavy in initially for around 24 hours, but if you develop following signs, consult a doctor immediately:
-Passing clots that are big in size, lasting for around 2 hours or more.
or
-Soaking more than 2 pads in an hour, for 2 hours in a row.

There may be slight bleeding for upto 2 weeks.
Abortion is confirmed by USG examination after 2 weeks..

For pain relief, tablet ibuprofen can be helpful.
No other pills are recommended.

Hope this helps.
Sorry again for the late response.

Take care.
Thanks.

Dr. I asked another dr and he suggested using Cytotec instead of misoprostol and mifeprex what do you think?

He suggested doing it as follow:
2 pills under the tounge and 2 pills vaginally
then after 4 hours 1 pill under the tounge and 1 vaginally
then 6 hours later 2 pulls under the tounge

What do u think?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Nidhi Setia (2 hours later)
Brief Answer:
oral route should be preferred in your case.

Detailed Answer:
Dear,

Cytotec is misoprostol only.

In my opinion, mifeprex and misoprostol both are essential for a successful abortion.

Mifepristone causes softening of cervix.
Misoprostol causes uterine contractions so that your body passes the uterine contents.

I do not think you should opt for a vaginal route. If by any chance you get to get examined by your doctor and there is pill remaining in vagina, it will be a clue that you have tried for abortion. Also, some people may find vaginal placement of pills difficult.

So, its better to take oral pills in your case.

Hope this clears your confusion.

Thanks.

So you suggest to only take 2 pills.. the dr said since the baby is only 2 weeks it'll pass easily without mifeprex.
But he said that the pill is necessarily to be taken vaginally to clean the place.
I really want to be careful I am supposed to be virgin however I did it once and there it I am pregnant now! Can't sleep can't think and hopeless..

Your advice is really essential pls help!!

Brief Answer:
Both mifeprex and misoprostol for successful abortion.

Detailed Answer:
I understand your situation.

I would still suggest you to take both the pills (mifeprex and misoprostol) for successful abortion.
As I told earlier, I recommend to my patients, 3 tablets of mifeprex (200 mg each tablet) followed by 4 tablets of misoprostol (200 microgram each) 'orally' on day 3.

I would advice you to take it orally and not vaginally for the reasons cited above.

Misoprostol's action is to increase uterine contractions. There is no vaginal effect of drug. (could not understand what your doctor means by 'cleaning the place').

Please do not panic. You will be fine.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

He means cleaning the vagina fully from all the blood and the baby.
how can I make sure exactly that the baby came out?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Nidhi Setia (35 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
oral route better; physical examination of products of conception.

Detailed Answer:
I would still prefer the oral route for you.
(Considering the strict laws in your country, vaginal tablets may become a proof of attempted abortion. You may fall into trouble if examined by a doctor).

When taken orally, there will be full effect.

To make sure the abortion is complete, the physical examination of products of conception (that is a sac containing embryo) when you bleed will help to determine complete abortion.

Take care.
Thanks.

How longs should the bleeding last? Should I eat something before the pills or on empty stomach?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Nidhi Setia (6 hours later)
Brief Answer:
better to take pills empty stomach.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.

Its better to take pills on empty stomach for better absorption.

The bleeding can be heavy for initial 24 hours.
But the slight bleeding may continue for upto 2 weeks.

Thanks.
